Abstract

In order to help the cooperatives gain professional knowledge on financial management of the enterprise, the National Federation of cooperatives (NATCCO) prepared this simple reading for cooperative leaders, BODs, and managers to adapt and follow. this module includes several basic key concepts on management of cooperative finances, fund sources and use, financial policy, interpretation and analysis of balance sheets and other financial statements, cooperative budgeting, and investments and banking. It employs NATCCO’s “COOP-PESOS” framework which helps the cooperatives on how to evaluate their management processes and financial well-being.

This financial management handout is divided into three main sections. The first one centers on policies of accounting wherein observed guidelines and protocols on proper monitoring and documentation of enterprise operation and finances are introduced. Concepts and process on asset and liability management, on the other hand, is tackled In the second section, with added focus on cooperative’s handling of investments, deposits, and loans. The third section consists of teaching materials and supplementary workshop activities for trainers and cooperative managers who desire to brief their members on effective monitoring, understanding, and handling enterprise’s finances.
