To espouse member awareness, participation, and involvement in cooperatives, PMES or the pre-membership education seminars are commonly administered on newly-registered individuals. PMES usually offers newly- registered members a sketch of what a cooperative is, how it works, and for what purpose. Thus, it is in this context that PMES Handbook was developed to ensure that facilitators of such seminars would be adept and able enough to give members an overview of the organization. Likewise, this material also aims to provide the basic concepts that the PMES facilitator should discuss. A number of the topics which requires to
be presented include the definition of a cooperative, cooperative principles and values, cooperative versus other kinds of business, history of a primary cooperative, member rights, roles, and duties, and how members should register. Lectures, key pointers, teaching rules, and illustrations are provided in this handbook to assist and for the perusal of the facilitator.
