Abstract

Most of the existing cooperatives, like those of credit unions, are headed by the leaders of the Board. They are usually elected or chosen by the members out of respect and their proven credibility. While these values are surely important for keeping the moral integrity of the organization, members do seem to forget to enstate members of notable knowledge and skills on running the cooperative operations. In order to help these coop directors unleash their innate leadership skills that would greatly impact their contributions to the cooperative, ACCU developed this training manual.

The Credit Union Director's Competency Course is a published training manual for instructors who plan to involve in educating credit union leaders and board members in directorship. Complete with relevant topics on overall CU operations, this material aims to help both experienced and inexperienced leaders to be active and flexible visionaries for their organizations. This is to ensure that there would noticeable improvements on the parts of CU leaders so that their progress would translate into the positive gains for the credit union. This training manual also include a number of lessons for general management, from planning, finance, human resource development, CU's legislative compliance, up to organizational and board performance assessment. Each lessons compiled in this manual has lesson objectives, learning materials, case study examinations, and pre and post-course assignment for the holistic development of participants in terms of directorship.
