Key to changing the leadership dynamics within the cooperatives is to bring about innovations in its standard practices and activities. AWCF or the Asian Women in Cooperative Development in 2001 began the initiative of designing a training course on “Transformative Leadership” (TL) for cooperative members, especially women. This is to address the issue of gender imbalance when it comes to decision-making and participation between men and women.
The TL style has been widely used and adapted among cooperatives since its creation. Many coop leaders implemented the “DO-IF-GS” (Development-Oriented, Issue-Focused, and Gender-Sensitive) framework to make their organizational goals, programs, and activities responsive to women. However, AWCF saw the need of having an assessment tool to measure the degree of the style’s adoption in cooperative systems and practices. Thus, AWCF created this manual as a comprehensive guide to measuring TL’s integration in the cooperatives. This material helps the trainers probe on (1) the level of TL adoption in coop leaders orientation and practices, (2) the level of TL adoption in coop’s organizational components, including areas of strengths and areas for improvement, and (3) the recommendations on how to maximize strengths and remove weaknesses in cooperatives.
