Abstract

Credit investigation (CI) is a process which involves the collection and verification of member- borrower's documents on material assets and properties. In the past years, NATCCO witnessed that cooperatives struggled with credit operations due to loan deliquency by  members that caused serious repercussions on the coops' overall financial performance. Instead of creating income and allocating budget for business expansion, a huge percentage of the cooperative finances was set aside for debts brought about by loan losses.Through this handbook, NATCCO aims to educate credit investigators on how to effectively screen loan applicants based on personal background and financial income. By explaining general guidelines on credit checking, providing a step-by-step CI process, and suggesting several policies and procedures, the credit investigator is expected to be informed enough in conscientiously weighing the borrower's capacity to pay.
